What Is a Charger?

The honest trade-off is that connectors are brand-specific and sometimes model-specific: a Lovense Lush cable does not fit a Lovense Max. Read the compatibility line on each product before ordering, and keep the old cable for comparison if you have it.

Types of Chargers & Adaptors: Which One Suits You?

Chargers and adaptors come in four types, and the toy decides which you need: magnetic USB cables, pin USB cables, charging docks and storage bases, and wand power supplies.

Magnetic USB cables

Two small magnets snap onto contacts on the toy. The Satisfyer Usb Magnetic Charge Cable fits the whole Satisfyer range; the Womanizer Premium/Classic/IO Charging Cable Black fits Womanizer Premium, Classic and IO; the Ultra Bullet Magnetic Charger fits the Femme Funn Ultra Bullet, and the Charging Cable For Max/Nora/Osci 2 and Lush/Lush 2/Hush/Edge/Osci Cable are Lovense's two magnetic leads for different models.

Pin and barrel USB cables

A small pin plugs into a port under a flap. The USB Charging Cable is ZALO's cable; the Charging Cable for PULSE SOLO Essential, Digit, ATOM, & ATOM+ is Hot Octopuss's for the Pulse and Atom range; the Vortex Charger is Femme Funn's Vortex charger.

Docks and storage bases

How to Choose Your First Charger

Choose in this order: brand, then exact model, then cable or dock, then a spare. Getting the first two right is the whole job.

1. Brand: start with the name on the toy

Every connector here is brand-specific. Satisfyer toys take the Satisfyer Usb Magnetic Charge Cable; Womanizer takes the Womanizer Premium/Classic/IO Charging Cable Black; Magic Wand takes the Magic Wand Charger. A generic cable will not charge any of them.

2. Model: some brands split by model

Lovense uses different leads: the Charging Cable For Max/Nora/Osci 2 for Max, Nora and Osci 2, the Lush/Lush 2/Hush/Edge/Osci Cable for Lush, Hush, Edge and Osci. Check the model name on your toy before you order.

3. Cable or dock

If the toy shipped with a cradle, replace it with the cradle: the Charging Dock For Ambi for the Ambi, the Ion Storage Base Cable cable for the Arcwave Ion base. A bare cable will not charge a dock-only toy.

4. Buy the spare now

Cables are the part that goes missing. At $10 to $23, a second one in the travel bag is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy for a toy; the Vortex Charger is the cheapest here.

Materials & Body-Safety

Charging cables are standard USB-A leads with a brand-specific magnetic or pin head, insulated in PVC or braided nylon. The magnetic heads use small rare-earth magnets and gold-plated contacts; keep them away from cards and hard drives. Docks are ABS plastic with the same contacts inside.

The Magic Wand charger is a mains adaptor rated for Australian sockets. Use genuine or model-matched chargers only; a mismatched supply can overheat a battery. Every charger here is the brand's own or made to its specification.

How to Use a Charger

Dry the toy fully before charging, every time. Snap a magnetic head onto the contacts, or push a pin into its port until it seats, and plug the USB end into a phone adaptor or a computer port. Most toys show a light while charging and go steady or dark when full.

For a dock, set the toy in the cradle so its contacts meet the dock's; a slight rock finds the spot. The Magic Wand plugs straight into the wall through its supply.

A first charge takes two to four hours. If the light does not come on, check the contacts are clean and the model matches the cable; a magnet that sits crooked is not charging.

Care, Cleaning & Storage

Wipe the toy's contacts and the magnetic head with a dry cloth if charging becomes unreliable; lube and body fluids on the contacts are the usual cause. Coil cables loosely and never wrap them tightly around the toy.

Keep chargers dry and away from the shower, and retire a cable with a cracked head or exposed wire. Store the spare with the toy so it is there when the first one goes missing.
