What Is a Lube Shooter?

A lube shooter, also sold as a lube launcher, injector or lube tube, is a small syringe with a smooth rounded nozzle. You draw lubricant into the barrel, insert the nozzle a few centimetres and press the plunger, so the lube is exactly where the toy or partner is going. Most hold 10 to 30ml, which is one generous dose.

Are Lube Shooters Right for You?

How to Choose Your First Lube Shooter

Choose in this order: material, then nozzle and capacity, then how many you need. All of them do the same job; the differences are comfort and how long they last.

1. Material: plastic to start, silicone or steel to keep

2. Nozzle: smooth, rounded, right length

Materials & Body-Safety

Plastic shooters are polypropylene or ABS with a silicone plunger seal: body-safe, non-porous and fine with every lube. Silicone shooters are platinum-cure silicone, soft and non-porous, and they take water-based and hybrid lube without trouble; avoid silicone lube in a silicone shooter to keep the surface from going tacky.

Stainless steel is the most durable and the easiest to sterilise, and it works with every lube including oils. Whatever the material, a rounded tip with no seams or sharp edges is the thing to check.

How to Use a Lube Shooter

Draw the lube into the barrel by pulling the plunger with the nozzle in the bottle, or by squeezing a pump bottle into the barrel. Warm it in your hand for a minute so the lube is not cold going in.

Add a little lube to the outside of the nozzle, insert it a few centimetres, and press the plunger slowly. Pull out, and the lube is exactly where it needs to be. Use it before the toy and again mid-session if things dry out.

Thick fisting lubes and mixed powders draw up slowly; a wide-barrel shooter or thinning the lube slightly with water fixes it. Never share a shooter without cleaning it first.

Care, Cleaning & Storage

Rinse the shooter straight after use, before the lube dries inside the barrel. Pull the plunger out, wash both parts in warm soapy water or a toy cleaner, and dry them apart.

Silicone and steel can be boiled for a proper clean; plastic cannot. Store it dry with the plunger loosely in place, and replace a plastic shooter when the plunger stiffens or the seal stops holding lube.
